MountainTop Wins Again!

We’re proud to announce that one of our original soft-ripened goat’s milk cheeses, MountainTop, is a 2019 Good Foods Awards winner.  The 2019 awards were announced at the Good Food Awards ceremony held in San Francisco, California on January 11, 2019.

To celebrate this award and the cheese that earned it, we’re pleased to offer a new item in the FireFly Shop: A Journey Through the MountainTops.  This offering contains four 6-ounce MountainTop pyramids accompanied by tasting and pairing notes that guide the recipient through the wonderful 4-week ripening journey of this delicious soft-ripened cheese.

FireFly Farms' cheeses are produced using sustainably-produced, locally‐sourced fresh goat’s milk and time‐honored, traditional methods of cheese making.  Our cheeses have received national and international recognition for taste and quality since our opening in 2002.

The FireFly Story

Founded in 2002 by partners Mike Koch & Pablo Solanet, FireFly Farms is dedicated to excellence in handmade goat cheese. We only use four simple ingredients and our cheeses have no additives, preservatives or stabilizers. We source fresh goat milk from family farms within 30-miles of the creamery, all of which is free from added hormones or antibiotics. We are committed to renewable energy and sustainability, and we are proud members of the Maryland Cheese Guild as well as the American Cheese Society. FireFly Farms works to create value for our local farming community, as well as the economy of Western Maryland.

We Believe In Sustainability

 

We use alternative green energy sources for the production facility and retail space, recycling and reducing waste, and donation of whey to local farmers to use as feed for their crops and herds. We have invested in solar renewable energy installation, and our solar panels generate one-third of FireFly Farms' total energy demand as of 2018. Our family farms are all within a 30-mile radius of our creamery, and we reduce emissions and support our community when we buy local milk.
