Goats
Ask anyone who has ever met or raised a goat and they will tell you; goats are quite the incredible animals. Full of personality and a curious intelligence, they are known for opening gates and finding ways through fences – all in order to eat the most valued plant in your garden or the rarest flower. In June 2006, We made one of our biggest decisons-we decided to sell most of our herd and transistion from a farmstead creamery to simply a creamery. We now purchase our milk through a Lancaster, Pennsylvania based milk co-op – our milk comes from a group of Amish farmers just north of Bittinger. This transistion provides us with the time to focus on our cheesemaking.
Great milk comes from happy goats, and goat milk is great milk. Goat milk is a nutritious addition to any diet, especially if you have trouble digesting soy or cow milk.
Goats have had a long history with humans. Together with dogs, they were the first animals to be domesticated and they were used as dairy animals long before recorded history.
